An Experiment: Open Thread!

This blogging thing is still new to us, and there's always room for experments. So here is an open thread; go ahead and post what you will. Do you have questions for us? Want to make yourself available for a cabinet position (since Obama seems to have a problem filling those jobs)? Want to pontificate on your favorite AT bands and releases? Want to guess why this guy decided to smuggle pigeons in his pants (as well as an eggplant, some seeds, and an egg in his luggage)?

***

I'm going to address the comments posted so far up here in the main post since Blogger won't let me reply to individual comments. (Let me know if you prefer that I respond in the comments instead of adding to the main post.)

Dear JGY, the Concerned Canadian Citizen:

I have very limited knowledge of Jello and the Axis's current activities, however, I do know that the band has been rehearsing regularly. They were planning to play some shows in Fall 08, but due to scheduling conflicts, that didn't happen. We hope that there will be some live dates in 2009. As of now, there are no concrete plans I'm aware of, for a tour or an album. Of course, as soon as we know anything, we'll let you know! I will tell Jello that his presence is wanted in Ontario.

Dear Krista:

Thanks for liking us. Maybe you can send us a Valentine to cheer us up in this bleak economic climate?

Speaking of economic climates, I wonder if banks have the basic math skills or common decency to accept your check written out for "Thirty Seven and 832/100 Dollars" as $45.32. They will probably perform some "service" to "correct your error" and will collect a fee for that "service." They always find a way to charge you for some bullshit, so-called convenience, including interpreting "Thirty Seven and 832/100 Dollars" as $45.32. Someone else may have a more optimistic response than what I've offered, though.

Dear disconnected:

Yes, I've checked out Conservapedia. Maybe there will be a blog post--we're always looking for material so thank you for the suggestion.

Dear chipthedestroyr:

NoMeansNo decided to leave Alternative Tentacles in 2001 or thereabouts, after they released No One. It was an amicable parting, though we were sad to see them go. Now, they have their own label Wrong, through which they have reissued their back catalog. In our mailorder, we carry some classic NMN releases on Wrong here. We still have the Jello Biafra with NoMeansNo record The Sky is Falling and I Want My Mommy.

Dear David:

You can get your Fuck Facts (#2 and #3 only) through our mailorder. Maybe some day, we'll wise up and scan those things and post them as PDFs.

Dear PlanetClaire:

Thanks for your support all these years! Recently, we did make free sampler CDs (in 2006 and 2007 to be exact) that we sent out with our mailorder orders and gave out through indie record stores. We hope to do something like that again soon. Until then, please check out the free mp3s on our site. It's not as cool as a nifty CD with artwork, but it's free!

As for Tragic Mulatto, they were around before my time at AT so I don't know what the band members are up to these days. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think their records were released on CD (I only have their stuff on LP myself). Right now, the only Tragic Mulatto releases we have in stock for mailorder is Chartreuse Toulouse on LP.

The Alternative Tentacles closed the UK office in 1997. But we Yanks would be happy to put kisses on your invoices!

  1. I've got to say, in times like these, I wish there was more jello to go around in you friendly neighbour to the north. Ontario is lame, with the exception of the occasional D.O.A show, which is always appreciated. In fact, D.O.A is all people from Niagara Falls and St. Catherines can look forward to.

Please send The Axis and Jello (by bus, plane or case) to Canada, because theirs always room......

  2. Hello, here is a post since I like you Alternative Tentacles folks.

Maybe someone could answer this for me:

What if I wanted to write a check, for say, forty-five dollars and 32 cents. But I actually wrote it out as, "thirty-seven dollars and 832/100" ??? Would the banks ignore it and carry on?

  4. I've got a question for you A.T folks.

Nomeansno are probably my favorite alt. tent. band. how come you guys stopped printing their albums/e.p's all those years ago and do you think they'll ever come back in print/get reissued?

    just curious.

  5. Can I still get the "Fuck Facts" insert it talks about sending $2 for in the liner notes of High Priest of Harmful Matter?

Also I actually pay taxes, does that mean I meet the criteria for a cabinet position?

  6. You can get the inserts for a few AT records, including that one, by searching for "inserts" in the drop down menu on our site.

    Here's the High Priest insert!

  7. Nomeansno wanted to strike out on their own a few years back so we sent them the remaining records & cds & they've been doing it themselves ever since.

We're still friendly with the band & carry the Wrong Records versions of some of their AT catalog on our website. Go to Other CD/Vinyl & search for Nomeansno & The Hanson Brothers. We also have the NMN/Hanson Brothers dvd!

  8. Hey!

I used to love those comp albums you guys used to do. Through buying these, I got into Nomeansno, DOA,False Prophets, Tribe 8, Galloping Coroners, Tragic Mulatto and others. Those comp cd's were great and cheap! Any plans to release anymore?

What happened to Tagic Mulatto btw, they really were the dog's gonads and my vinyl lps are crackly and old. Were they ever available on CD?

AND, will Terminal City Ricochet ever be released on DVD? I watch clips on YouTube wondering, hoping....

Oh and what happened to the Lodon AT office? The staff there used to put kisses on my invoices and made me feel loved.

    all the best

  10. I am a bank teller myself, and sadly still have no idea what would happen with a check written as "thirty-seven dollars and 832/100." Personally I'd put it though, but I've come to learn most people don't like this "fun" concept in the banking world.

I recently got hired part time (which is quite a feat for the time), and asked the woman what would happen if I ever came across a check written that way. The response I got was, "... ... You think too much." She's worked there for over 20 years! Shouldn't she know!? I can't possibly be the first one to have thought of that.

I'd write a check like that, and put it through myself if I could. I am really curious to see if it'd go through at all, and if it did how far it'd go... but I could get fired for that. Maybe when it nears quitting time I'll give it a whirl.

I could send a Valentine's card! It'd probably be late though, and very poorly constructed. Maybe I will! With a check for, oh, two dollars written as "fifty-seven cents and 143/100."
